Regional Recommendations for Potential Areas
The polygons within this shapefile are the boundaries of potential Biodiversity Stewardship Areas (BSAs) as recommended to the Michigan DNR by the Core Design Teams that were part of the DNR's Biodiversity Conservation Planning Process. The DNR's Biodiversity Conservation Planning Process is now called the DNR's Living Legacies Initiative. Also included with the shapefile is a Natural Community representation table that describes the expected natural communities in each polygon that could be targets for biodiversity conservation. The shapefile and representation table can be linked through the site_id field in a 1-to-many relationship. It is important to note that these areas are not Living Legacies BSAs but instead are the combined set of areas recommended to the DNR by 4 regional (Southern Lower Peninsula, Northern Lower Peninsula, Eastern Upper Peninsula, and Western Upper Peninsula) Core Design Teams. For more information users of this data should visit the Living legacies website at http://www.michigan.gov/livinglegacies.
