Sea-rocket (Cakile edentula)
Although sea rocket can sometimes be found at some distance from the water's
edge, even on perched dunes, it most often occurs on the beach strand where its
seeds are typically deposited. This unusual member of the mustard family occurs
in Michigan primarily on the shores of Lakes Huron and Michigan. At maturity,
the fruits break into segments that become dispersed in the water, producing new
plants when the seeds are washed ashore on some distant strand.
