Dear Michigan Historical Center,
We are studying the states in school this year. Please send me everything you've got about Michigan.
Thank you,

Will your class be "studying the states" this year? Just as government travel agencies provide tourist information and departments of natural resources provide information about forests and lakes, the Michigan Historical Center, Department of History, Arts and Libraries, provides information about the state's history.
The Michigan Historical Center has put this information online. You can find it in "Find it Online". You may use the these pages with your students and on your bulletin boards. We are not currently publishing this information for distribution in printed format.
We encourage your students to write letters to their grandparents, to their friends, and to us if they have a specific question about Michigan that cannot be answered by consulting a good encyclopedia, by doing research at a school or public library or by searching our Web site. We will give each question serious consideration (although we might not be able to reply in time for them to finish their report tonight).
We often respond by suggesting sources (Web or library) for the student's own continuing research. If the research involves specialty resources that might be available only at the Michigan Historical Center or the Library of Michigan, we will do our best to provide an answer.
A subscription to Michigan History magazine is always a good idea when learning about Michigan. You will find the magazine and its other publications (including Michigan History for Kids) at this URL:
