Importance:
This natural area has value in its simple beauty: a sand-gravel
beach backed by forest extending along the Lake Superior shoreline.
There are also open dunes and interdunal wetlands in the area. This
was formerly a nesting area for the federally and state endangered
piping plover, but the plovers have not used it for many years.
However, as the piping plover population continues to increase, it
may once again provide the necessary habitat for these birds at some
point in the future. |
