Portion of Evart Motorcycle Trail Remains Closed

Contact:  Amanda Matelski 231-775-9727, ext. 6044
Agency: Natural Resources & Environment

Sept. 2, 2009

The Department of Natural Resource today announced the east side of the Evart Motorcycle Trail, located in Osceola County, has reopened. The south east portion will remain closed for the rest of the season.

A temporary reroute, as identified on the DNR Internet trail map, will be used to reconnect the loop to the north of an ongoing timber sale. Riders should not travel east from the parking lot due to active logging in this area. The trail is not passable at this time and remains very dangerous as a result of falling trees and logging equipment.

Questions may be directed to Amanda Matelski, DNR trails analyst, at (231) 775-9727, ext. 6044. Information regarding other ORV/ATV riding opportunities may be found on the DNR's Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, accessible use and enjoyment of the State's natural resources for current and future generations.
