The Department of Natural Resources today announced that Cub Lake Boating Access Site, located in Cambria Township in Hillsdale County, will undergo paving improvements and site redevelopment beginning the week of July 13.

Construction is expected to last four to six weeks. It is anticipated that construction activities will necessitate closure of the site on Mondays through Fridays. The boat ramp will only be open on Saturdays and Sundays for individuals wishing to launch or pick up their watercraft, but the parking area will be closed at the site during construction. There are no alternative access sites on Cub Lake.

Upgrades will include asphalt paving, improved vehicular circulation, an expanded parking area and barrier-free accessibility. The improvements will benefit site users by providing a more efficient use of parking space, as well as enhanced accessibility for all users. Asphalt paving of boating sites saves money in the long run, as most gravel surfaced sites require continued maintenance, such as grading, erosion repair, and regular replenishment of aggregate surfaces.

This project, estimated at $74,900, is funded through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and a portion of the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities, harbors and inland waterways.

Boating access site permits are $24 for an annual permit, or $6 for a daily permit, for both residents and nonresidents. Boating access site permits also are available at fee sites.
