Twin Lakes State Park is offering a "GO-Get Outdoors" weekend with Ralph Raffaelli and his exhibit of historical photos Aug. 1-3.

Ralph Rafaelli, former Houghton Police Chief, has a collection of photographs taken from 1880 to 1970 of people, places and things within the four counties of the Copper Country. The photos have become a historical treasure for the city's residents and visitors. Photos from his collection appear in displays at numerous local businesses and along the city's historical walking tour, and were featured inside the city's nationally-recognized snow house exhibit, sparking an interest in the area's history. In 2002, Rafaelli received the Governor's John B. Swainson Award for his collection and contributions to preserving Michigan's history.

The exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, and will be displayed in the enclosed day use shelter at Twin Lakes State Park, which is located 25 miles south of Houghton on M-26.

"Camping is available for the weekend. With a stay of four or more nights, campers can receive discount coupons from various businesses that border the park property and are within walking distance of the campground, with the exception of Adventure Mining Company which is located about 14 miles south of Twin Lakes," explained Park Ranger Rich Pirhonen. "Antique tractors and farm equipment will also be on display during the weekend."

Twin Lakes State Park has 62 campsites and a mini-cabin located on Lake Roland. Reservations for camping can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 1-800-44PARKS.

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.
