July 17, 2008

Holland State Park is hosting a "GO-Get Outdoors" stargazing program on July 25, beginning at 10 p.m., the Department of Natural Resources announced today.

The Holland Astronomers Club will be on-hand to guide visitors through the Milky Way and describe other parts of the galaxy using telescopes they will provide and set up on the basketball courts.

If there is cloud cover or rain, the event will be rescheduled to Saturday, Aug. 2.

Holland State Park is located at 2215 Ottawa Beach Rd. in Holland. The park offers two modern campgrounds, a new camper cabin and an expansive sandy beach along Lake Michigan with a beautiful view of sailboats, sunsets and the stars.

For more information about this event or the park, contact the park at 616-399-9390. Camping reservations can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-44PARKS.

Although this event is free, all motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the entrance. Cost is $24 for resident annual and $6 for resident daily. A non-resident annual is $29 and a non-resident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
