Fort Wilkins Historic State Park Hosts Memorial Day Ceremony

Department of Natural Resources state park and recreation officials today announced Fort Wilkins Historic State Park will host a special Memorial Day Ceremony May 26 on the parade grounds of the old Fort Wilkins Historic Complex. In addition, the Copper Harbor Elementary School student body will play a musical tribute for our nation's armed forces. The program begins at 10 a.m. Free refreshments will be served in the East Mess Hall following the ceremony.

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park is located one mile east of Copper Harbor on US-41. For information about the park or this event, contact the park at (906) 289-4215. Camping reservations can be made online at www.midnrreservations.com, or by calling 800-44-PARKS (72757).

All motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a Motor Vehicle Permit, available for purchase at the park entrance. Cost is $24 for a resident annual and $6 for a resident daily. A nonresident annual is $29 and a nonresident daily is $8.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
