The Great Lakes SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) workshop was put together and presented by Dan Yule, Randy Claramunt, Patrick Sullivan, Dave Warner, Lars Rudstam, and Sandy O'Sullivan. It ran over 5 days in the small town of Charlevoix, on Lake Michigan. It became a reality through the hard work of these folks, and also from the interest from prospective participants - simply the wish to get people working with acoustics together! It ran over 5 days in the small town of Charlevoix, on Lake Michigan.
The idea of the workshop was to work through the Great Lakes SOP manual, a document which has been produced to standardize the procedures for running acoustic surveys in the Great Lakes region. It covers everything from selecting and calibrating hardware, selecting frequencies, ideal conditions, through to post-processing datasets to achieve desired results.
Karl Fischmann (Technical Sales Consultant) said, "the workshop was of huge benefit to me, and I feel that my core understanding of fisheries acoustics and the theoretical components behind it improved substantially because of my attendance. It was also a buzz to see so many people working with Echoview in the same room - Almost 30 people attended the workshop, and the majority of the processing work was completed with Echoview!"
"All those I met were great people, with whom I look forward to working with again in the future. I'd like to thank Dan, Randy, Pat, Lars, Sandy and anybody else involved with the workshop - it was a fantastic experience."
