The mission of the Hunt Creek Fisheries Research Station is to provide information on inland fisheries resources to allow for better management and understanding of Michigan’s fishery resources. This mission is pursued by:

• Investigating relations between habitat quality and fish community dynamics
• Conducting experiments to test effects of habitat changes on fish abundance
• Coordinating the statewide Status and Trends Program for habitat and fish in streams
• Communicating research findings to Michigan’s fisheries managers and the scientific community so that knowledge gained through research can be applied to restore and improve fisheries
• Developing experimental designs for experiments or evaluations carried out by Michigan’s fisheries managers
• Providing scientific evaluations of fisheries management actions
• Providing expert advice and recommendations to fisheries managers
• Providing data analysis and study reporting assistance to fisheries managers
• Providing technical editing expertise to professional peers in specialized research areas
• Publishing peer-reviewed technical articles in specialized research areas
• Serving as educators and consultants to Fisheries Division in our areas of specialization
• Writing Fisheries Division technical documents and policies and procedures for areas of expertise
• Providing leadership of issues relating to streams in Michigan, particularly coldwater streams
• Developing active research collaborations with professional peers and university faculty and students
