FAQ
  National Guard Membership
How will my membership in the National Guard affect my civilian job?

Answer:

Your membership in the National Guard should not affect your civilian employment. There are Federal and State laws that protect your employment rights.

Basically, your employer must give you time off for required military duty, including training, and must allow you to return to the same, or an equivalent, position on completion of your military duty. To protect your rights, you must request military leave from your employer. Common sense dictates that you give your employer as much notice as you can.

Your unit leaders can assist in solving a civilian employment conflict.

The National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) has a more information on this subject. The ESGR also has programs for recognizing employers who are particularly supportive of their National Guard and reserve military members.
