Remember to get Regular Oil Changes and other Routine Maintenance

A variety of vehicle services are available to you through the VTS Garage and the Maintenance Assistance Program (MAP).  If you are not in the vicinity of the VTS Garage at the Secondary Complex, remember these tips on cost savings:

• Change oil at 5,000 miles.  It is the recommended interval for passenger cars and light duty trucks. 
• Do NOT change spark plugs and automatic transmission fluids before the recommended interval.  Many cars have 100,000 mile spark plugs. 
• Use regular unleaded gas or gasohol (also known as E10, a mixture of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline) at all times.  If you have a flexible fuel vehicle, use E85 fuel.
• Refuel at state fuel pumps for cost savings of about six cents per gallon. 
• Speedway gas stations give a penny volume discount to the state.  Look for these value provider gas stations. 
• Outside of Lansing, always call WHEELS first when requiring a tow. 
• Wheels/MAP preferred vendor lists save the state dollars through their preferred vendors discount services.  
• For tire replacement, use Goodyear or Firestone stores.  They offer government pricing which is even better than national account pricing. 
• Schedule oil changes at the downtown Lansing Motor Pool at 517-322-7576.
