When can an employee choose a non-contracted carrier (airline) for air travel?

Answer:

1.  If an airline offers a lower published fare that is not matched by the contracted carrier.  The employee is encouraged to take the lowest fare available.

2.  If there are no seats available on the contracted carrier.

3.  When the contracted airline schedule will conflict with the business purpose of the travel and/or cause additional overnight costs.
