Michigan Business Leaders Network

In 1994, Michigan was one of nine states in the country selected by the President's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities to participate in a pilot project, the Business Leaders Network, to enlist the participation of employers who understand the benefits of the ADA and of hiring individuals with disabilities.

The Michigan Business Leaders Network (BLN) has approximately 30 employers participating in this project. Initial employer membership of the BLN included employers who had previously received the Investing in Ability Week Governor’s Employer Honor Roll Awards. The BLN is developing four regional BLN committees (southeast region; western region; central region; and upper Michigan and Upper Peninsula region) to further promote the ADA.

The BLN’s mission statement is: to enlist the participation of Michigan employers to identify and share the needs and resources of business to hire, accommodate, and retain persons with disabilities. To accomplish this goal, employers will be speaking to other employers and local civic groups about the benefits of the ADA in their own communities.
