In February 2008, Governor Jennifer Granholm issued Executive Order 2008-1, establishing an Interagency Task Force on Employee Misclassification. The task force will examine the problem of employee misclassification, develop ways of improving communication and public awareness of the problem, coordinate and strengthen enforcement mechanisms in the state and with other jurisdictions, and make recommendations for legislative action, where needed. Since the issue cuts across state government, the Governor is seeking a coordinated and effective approach to the problem.
Task Force members
The Executive Order names the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth (DELEG) director to chair the task force and appoints as members individual representatives from DELEG's Unemployment Insurance Agency, Wage & Hour Division, and Workers' Compensation Agency, and from the Business Services Administration within the Department of Management & Budget and from the Discovery and Tax Enforcement Division within the Department of Treasury.
