The Office of Land Survey and Remonumentation ensures an orderly and consistent review of subdivision plats, conducts final review of plat maps, administers the statewide program of monumenting and remonumenting the original U.S. government public land survey property controlling corners and handles general questions.

Subdivisions

The Office of Land Survey and Remonumentation administers the applicable provisions of the Land Division Act, P.A. 288 of 1967 in order to ensure the orderly development of land division in the State of Michigan. Staff conducts final reviews of plat maps to ensure compliance with the Act and authorizes final plats to be submitted to the Register of Deeds for proper recordation.

The Michigan Subdivision Rules have been updated to reflect statutory changes to certificate forms, executive order directives, changes in the Land Division Act and other related statutes. Amendments to these rules became effective June 16, 2008. Provided below are links to the Subdivisions of Land Rules.

Survey and Remonumentation
State Boundary Commission

Created in 1968, the State Boundary Commission is responsible for adjudicating most municipal boundary adjustments as a nonpartisan, general neutral, quasi-judicial body. In administering the provisions of the Boundary Commission Act (P.A. 191 of 1968) and Administrative Rules, the State Boundary Commission adjudicates all city and village incorporations, all city, village and township consolidations, and certain types of annexations from a township to a city.
The Commission is comprised of three at-large appointees designated by the governor, and four local commissioners who are appointed by the chief probate judge of the county involving a respective petition.
Petitions can only be filed at the business location of the Commission Office, either by mail or in person.
