December 11, 2003 – Director David C. Hollister announced the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG) today presented Flat Rock Metal Inc.’s Michigan facility with the Consultation Education and Training Bronze Award for an outstanding safety and health record.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division recognizes the safety and health achievements of Michigan employers and employees through CET Awards, which are based on excellent safety and health performance. The CET Bronze Award recognizes leadership and commitment to workplace safety and health resulting in significant improvement of their MIOSHA record.
CET Safety Consultant Linda Long presented the award to Greg Zang, Vice President of Operations, during a plant meeting. “We are proud to recognize Flat Rock Metal for their outstanding efforts to create a safe and healthy work environment,” said MIOSHA Director Doug Kalinowski. “Reducing injury and illness rates not only protects workers, it has a healthy impact on a company’s bottom line.”
The Flat Rock Metal Michigan facility, through the strong commitment of management and employees, has significantly improved their safety and health record. They have completed the following criteria to receive the Bronze Award:

Developed and implemented written safety and health policies and procedures;

Established a safety and health committee;

Appointed a safety and health designee;
-
Reduced their injury and illness rate by 50 percent or more in the last three years.
For nearly a quarter century, Flat Rock Metal Inc. has specialized in critical surface processing and preparation, servicing the automotive and steel industries. Flat Rock Metal is headquartered in Flat Rock, MI, and it’s four plants offer the following processes: Flat polishing/sheet blanking, cut-to-length/multi-blanking, critical exposed slitting, and inspection and coil mapping. All of Flat Rock's plants operate solely as processors and are not involved in metal sales or distribution.
The Flat Rock Michigan plant is a 90,000 sq. ft. facility, with 175 hourly employees. They have four blanking processes with capacities up to 400 tons and bed sizes up to 70" x 130". In addition, they have six multiple head lines for polishing hot rolled or cold rolled carbon steel sheets. They are also capable of processing carbon steel sheets through a variety of treatments. Flat Rock Metal has built a strong reputation by offering superior service and quality to their customers.
