November 7, 2002
The Michigan Public Service Commission today approved a settlement agreement and granted Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association authority toincrease its rates for its electric customers by $240,071 annually, or about 4.32%, effective January 1, 2003. Alger Delta had requested a rate increase of $252,282 annually. The Commission approved the rate increase because Alger Delta's current electric rates would result in a revenue insufficiency for the company, based on 2001 year data.
Alger Delta's residential customers using 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month will see an increase in their monthly electric bills of about $2.15. Individual customer increases will vary, based on actual customer electric use. Commercial and industrial customers will also see rate changes based on actual electric use.
MPSC and Alger Delta negotiated the settlement agreement.
Alger Delta is headquartered in Gladstone and provides electric service to about 9,200 Michigan customers.
The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Consumer and Industry Services.
