OCTOBER 06, 1998 - Promoting home energy ratings and the savings benefits to homeowners is the aim of a state energy grant to the Caro Human Development Commission, announced Governor John Engler.
The grant of nearly $10,000 will fund two projects. They include seminars to promote and inform builders, home buyers, Realtors, bankers and other interested parties about the availability and benefits of home energy ratings.
The Commission also will develop a display showing a variety of information on how homeowners can save energy.
"These projects will help spread the word about the importance of home energy ratings and how they translate into financial savings for homeowners," Engler said.
The grants were awarded by the Energy Resources Division of the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS).
"Promoting home energy ratings not only means savings in heating and cooling, but uses our precious natural resources in the most efficient and effective ways," said CIS Director Kathleen Wilbur.
The grants are part of more than $100,000 in federal awards to 20 nonprofit and public agencies to educate consumers about energy efficiency and renewable energy options.
