OCTOBER 05, 2000 - The medical license of Julia Anne Hedgecorth, M.D., of Albion, has been summarily suspended by the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services (CIS) due to allegations of negligent and incompetent care of patients and for prescribing large quantities of controlled substances to patients without appropriate corroborating documentation.
It is alleged that Dr. Hedgecorth examined patients in her home and prescribed excessive amounts of controlled substances to numerous patients without documenting her findings and recommendations in the patients’ records.
Following an investigation of the allegations involving Dr. Hedgecorth’s inappropriate care of patients, CIS summarily suspended her license. The CIS Bureau of Health Services orders a summary suspension when it believes the public’s health, safety and welfare warrant emergency action. An administrative hearing will be scheduled to address the status of Dr. Hedgecorth’s suspended medical license.
