CIS Announces Nominations Due by Feb. 1 for the 2002 Governor's Quality Care Awards

Contact:  Maura Campbell 517.373.9280
Agency: Energy, Labor & Economic Growth

Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry Services Director Kathy Wilbur announced today that nominations are being sought for the 2002 Governor’s Quality Care Awards.  The annual awards program, which began in 1998, recognizes outstanding state-licensed day care homes and centers, nursing homes, homes for aged, hospices, and adult foster care facilities.

CIS receives approximately 1,000 nominations every year for this prestigious award.  This year’s nominations are due by Feb. 1, 2002.  Forms have been mailed to 26,000 licensees in Michigan and the nomination form is also available on CIS' Media home page at or by calling 517.373.9280.

“Each year we ask Michigan residents to tell us about a care provider who has made a difference in their lives and the response is always overwhelming and very heartwarming,” said Wilbur.  “We have heard about caregivers who have saved lives by reacting quickly in a crisis situation and others who have altered lives through their daily acts of love and compassion. I urge everyone who knows of an extraordinary caregiver, such as this, to take a few minutes to fill out a nominating form so CIS can give them the recognition they deserve."

The selection process includes an on-site review of all finalists by Wilbur and her staff. In addition to recognizing all of the finalists, an awards dinner is held in June at the Kellogg Center in East Lansing to announce the winners.

It is important to note that providers cannot nominate themselves. Previous winners are eligible to be nominated again three years after receiving the award.
