Contact:  Judy Palnau (517) 241-3323

December 23, 2008

The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) today authorized Michigan Consolidated Gas Company to collect $34,430,465 for uncollectibles in 2007.

Today's order authorizes the utility to implement the uncollectibles expense true-up mechanism (UETM) surcharge of $0.01720 per hundred cubic feet of gas for residential customers for service rendered on and after January 1, 2009.  The average residential natural gas customers will see an increase of 32 cents on their monthly bill.

The utility on September 30, 2003 filed an application seeking a general rate increase and the implementation of a UETM.  The MPSC in its April 28, 2005 order authorized the utility to implement the UETM.

The MPSC is an agency within the Department of Labor & Economic Growth.

Case No. U-13898
