DLEG Recognizes Demmer Corp. and Lansing Community College for Model No Worker Left Behind Partnership - News Release

LANSING, MIOn Friday, August 8, 2008, representatives of the Governor's Office, Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG), and the Capital Area Michigan Works! Agency will celebrate the first anniversary of No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) at Demmer Corporation in Lansing.  The event recognizes Demmer and Lansing Community College for their model NWLB partnership – a collaborative effort to design and implement an innovative worker training program that resulted in Demmer hiring more than 530 NWLB-trained workers.

Governor Granholm announced the NWLB initiative on August 1, 2007:  an ambitious plan to train 100,000 citizens in three years for jobs in high demand occupations, emerging industries, and entrepreneurial endeavors. NWLB provides up to two years of free tuition at any Michigan community college, university, or other approved training program for qualifying participants.
