Ken Ross, Acting Commissioner of the Office of Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS), announced today that data compiled under the federal Home Mortgage Disclosure Act are available from the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC). The data cover 2006 mortgage and home improvement loan applications taken by 8,886 banks, savings associations, credit unions, and independent mortgage companies in metropolitan areas across the U.S. The data include information such as the amount and terms of a loan request, the decision made, the census tract where the subject property is located, and certain borrower characteristics, but does not include borrower identities. Demographic information for each metropolitan area is also available
