State Department of Labor & Economic Growth Participating in Job Connections Expo for General Motors Workers

May 1, 2008 - The Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth (DLEG) will be presenting information about its No Worker Left Behind program at a Job Connections Expo taking place in Pontiac on May 2.

Sponsored by General Motors Corporation and the United Auto Workers (UAW), the Job Connections Expo is aimed at GM workers who are considering buyout options or retirement offers.

DLEG and Michigan Works! Agency representatives will be on hand to explain the No Worker Left Behind (NWLB) program, Governor Granholm's initiative to offer up to two years worth of free tuition at any Michigan community college, university, or other approved training programs for training in high demand occupations and emerging industries or entrepreneurial endeavors. NWLB gives Michigan workers the opportunity to acquire the skills they need to win good-paying jobs in today's global economy.

The Expo is a one-day opportunity for GM workers to learn from retirement experts, gather information about educational resources, and learn about franchise opportunities and other options for starting a business. Hiring companies will be present.

The Pontiac Expo will take place at the Marriott at Centerpoint, 3600 Centerpoint Parkway, Pontiac, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Expo is open to all GM workers as well as their families. There is no charge to attend. Please be advised that the sessions are not open to the media however, participants may consent to be interviewed at the conclusion of the session.
