| New Buffalo and Monroe Welcome Centers open universally accessible playgrounds |
Michigan has become the first state to build universally accessible playgrounds at its welcome centers; these are barrier-free playgrounds that expand play opportunities for children with special needs. A second playground was built at the Monroe Welcome Center on northbound I-75. A grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, plus financial support from businesses and individuals, provided funding for the playgrounds.
