How to Become Licensed as a Solicitor
Resident Solicitor - File an Electronic Resident Licensing (ERL) application through the National Producer License Registry (NIPR) website. The application/license fee is $20.00 plus a $5.00 transaction fee. An application is good for six months from entry into our database. - Complete required prelicensing coursework. Visit our Prelicensing page for information for property and casualty applicants.
- Successful completion of the examination. If the examination is not passed within six months, the applicant must submit a new license application and fee and reschedule their examination. Visit our Examination Information page for information specific to the examinations.
Non-Resident Solicitor Non-Resident solicitor applicants must be licensed as a solicitor in a state that required successful completion of an examination to obtain a license or they must take the Michigan examination.
