Immunization Information

Information pertaining to required immunizations for Michigan child care/school attendance can be obtained from the Michigan Department of Community Health (DCH) website (www.michigan.gov/immunize). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends additional immunizations. Additional information on the CDC's recommendations can be obtained from the CDC website (www.cdc.gov/vaccines).

DCH has developed influenza (flu) information materials for child care facilities and preschools to share with parents. To be protected against the flu, children need to be given the flu vaccine every year.

Public Health Code Reporting Requirements

The Public Health Code [1978 PA 368, MCL 333.9211(2)] requires the operator of the licensed child care program to report the immunizations of all children enrolled in the program using Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) or forms provided by the Department of Community Health by October 1 of each year. For more information on MCIR, go to www.mcir.org. Any assistance needed or questions about immunizations should be directed to the county public health department or the Division of Immunization at (517) 335-8159.
