The December 2000 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Kimberly Noah of Beulah. This single mother of five children, first turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) in Wayne County for assistance in 1983. In 1998 she left Wayne County and moved to Benzie to escape a domestic violence situation. Through the Benzie County FIA she received Family Independence Program funds, Medicaid and Food Stamps.

Diana Oland was selected to receive the November 2000 Achiever of the Month Award because she has demonstrated remarkable progress toward self-sufficiency and self-improvement.
Diana turned to the Lapeer County Family Independence Agency (FIA) in October 1992. At that time, she was single, pregnant and had been recently laid off from her job.

The October 2000 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Michael DeYoung of Sault Ste Marie. This single parent of two children, turned to the Chippewa County FIA for assistance in 1995. At that time he was unemployed and needed help providing for his family. His children received Family Independence Program benefits, food stamps and Medicaid.

Belynda McKeller-Nabors is the proud recipient of the September 2000 Achiever of the Month Award. The mother of eight chidren is a second generation welfare recipient who turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in April 1983. For a number of years she relied on Aid for Dependent Children, food stamps and Medicaid to help make ends meet.

The August 2000 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Bobbie Davidson of Baldwin. Ms. Davidson is the single mother of two children. She turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for help in 1993. She was divorced, her finances were exhausted and she was having a difficult time making ends meet. Through the FIA Bobbie received Aid for Dependent (ADC) Children and Medicaid.

The July 2000 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Lorie Fooce. This mother of three first sought assistance from the Ontonogan Family Independence Agency in 1994. She received Aid for Dependent Children, which later became the Family Independence Program funds (FIP), Medicaid and food stamps.

Karen Lamothe was the proud recipient of the June 2000 Achiever of the Month Award. This single mother of one child came to the Kalkaska County Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in 1996; she was 18 years old and caring for her 15-month-old daughter.

Ms. Rios is a single mother of two children. She became involved with the Family Independence Agency (FIA) in July 1993. At the time, she was unemployed and very worried about being able to provide for her family.

Dionne Cole of Detroit was the proud recipient of the March 2000 Achiever of the Month Award. This single mother of one child initially came to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) as part of the Teen Parent Program, where she learned valuable information about budgeting and managing her income. In September 1999, when she exceeded the Teen Parent Program age limit, she was transferred to the Fullerton-Jeffries District office.

The February 2000 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Mary Barnhill of Pentwater. Ms. Barnhill is the single mother of one child. She turned to the Family Independence Agency for help in March 1998, when she was unemployed and having a difficult time providing for her son. Although she needed help with food, transportation and health care, she was hesitant about seeking assistance.

The mother of four sought assistance from the Genesee County Family Independence Agency (FIA) in 1989 when she was 15, pregnant and badly in need of financial assistance. Through the FIA she received Family Independence Program funds, Food Stamps, Medicaid and child day care.
