December 1999
Joleen McGeshick The December 1999 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Joleen McGeshick of Gogebic. Joleen McGeshick turned to the Gogebic County FIA for assistance in 1997. At that time she was unemployed, without heat and facing possible eviction from her home. Despite the gravity of her situation, Joleen was hesitant about coming to the FIA. It was very difficult for her to accept that she needed assistance.

November 1999
Jana Lashmit Jana Lashmit of Charlevoix received the November 1999 Achiever of the Month Award. Jana initially came to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in Emmet County. She was unemployed and having difficulty making ends meet. The Emmet county FIA provided Family Independence Program funds, Food Stamps and Medicaid. They also referred Jana to the Work First program where she utilized Work First’s resources and quickly found employment.

Pamela Montgomery October’s Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Pamela Montgomery of Detroit. She came to the Family Independence Agency for assistance in September 1997. She was experiencing financial difficulties and worried about providing for her daughter and niece. Through the Schoolcraft/Stansbury District, she received Family Independence Program (FIP) funds, Food Stamps and Medicaid to help make ends meet.

Maria Rodriguez The September 1999 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Maria Rodriguez of St. Clair County. Maria Rodriguez is the single parent of a teenaged daughter. She came to the St. Clair County Family Independence Agency for assistance in May 1999. At the time Maria was unemployed and having difficulty providing for her mother, daughter and grandchild.

Kimberley Emelander The August 1999 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Kimberley Emelander of Kent County. Kimberly Emelander is the single mother of three children. She turned to the Kent County FIA in March 1995 to help make ends meet. In July 1996, she moved to Hastings where she continued to receive Family Independence Program funds, Medicaid and Food Stamps through the Barry County FIA.

Patti Jo and Willie Tyler July's Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Patti Jo and Willie Tyler of Gulliver. On February 1, 1999, the couple turned to the Schoolcraft County FIA for assistance after Mr. Tyler's unemployment benefits expired. Because Mrs. Tyler was also unemployed, the parents were very worried about providing for their 3-month-old son.

Beatrice Taylor June's Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Beatrice Taylor. This mother of two first sought assistance from the Maddelein District Wayne County Family Independence Agency (FIA) in 1974. She received Aid for Dependent Children, Medicaid and Food Stamps.

Stephen and Lisa French Stephen and Lisa French of Mio received the May 1999 Achiever of the Month Award. The parents of four children first came to the Oscoda County Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in February 1992. At that time, Mr. French worked at a variety of jobs but was unable to find employment that paid enough to support his family.

Rebecca Shore April's Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Rebecca Shore. She turned to the Ogemaw County Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in October 1985. At that time she was 18 years old, pregnant and badly in need of financial assistance. Through the Ogemaw FIA she received Aid for Dependent Children (ADC) and Medicaid.

Sandra Adam The March 1999 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Sandra Adam of Kent County. Sandra Adam is the single mother of two children, a son, aged 7 and a daughter, aged 2. She came to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in 1991 after a divorce left her in financial difficulties and a high-risk pregnancy made it impossible for her to work.

Rebecca Beech The February 1999 Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Rebecca Beech of Saginaw County. In January of 1994, Rebecca Beech a single mother attending Delta College applied to the Saginaw County Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance. She received Aid for Dependent Children (ADC) and worked with the Most program.

Audra Wilkinson January's Achiever of the Month Award was presented to Audra Wilkinson. Audra Wilkinson is the single mother of three children. She turned to the Family Independence Agency (FIA) for assistance in June of 1995. At that time she and her two children were living in a shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
