Benefits to Clients

The EBT program is a safe, convenient, and easy way for DHS clients to access their benefits each month. With EBT, DHS clients will no longer receive paper checks or food stamp coupons. Instead, DHS clients will access their benefits by using a debit card called the Michigan Bridge Card. DHS clients can use their Bridge Card at any retailer or ATM displaying the QUEST logo.

EBT has been implemented in many states, and most clients have reported the system to be a safer, more dignified means of obtaining cash and food assistance benefits. To the general public the Bridge Card and the process to use it, will look like any other debit or credit card.

Other benefits of EBT to DHS Clients include:

  • Security – A Personal Identification Number (PIN) must be used with the Bridge Card to access the benefits.
  • Service – A toll free number is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day to obtain account balances, change a PIN, report a card lost or stolen, or order a replacement card.
  • Convenience – DHS clients no longer have to pick up food stamps or wait for a paper check in the mail. Benefits are deposited into the client’s EBT account on the same day each month.
