Medical Resource System

The Department of Human Services has a contract with DeVos' Children's Hospital at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids to ensure access to a Medical Resource System (MRS). MRS was established to extend access to forensic medicine services to CPS workers and medical professionals statewide. MRS returns a report to the referring agency for each medical interview or physical examination they conduct. In addition to onsite evaluations, MRS provides telephone consultation statewide to provide CPS workers or medical professionals access to expertise in CA/N or "second opinions" from Spectrum personnel. The MRS also provides statewide training for other professionals and CPS workers regarding the identification, diagnosis, and reporting of CA/N. MRS staff will, when necessary, review cases and/or make court appearances as expert witnesses within the 13 county referral area.
