The DEQ today presented one of its highest environmental stewardship honors to General Motors' Technical Center in Warren.

The GM Technical Center earned designation as a member of the state's Clean Corporate Citizen Program Dec. 14, 2011. The C3 Program is a voluntary environmental program that recognizes environmental stewardship at Michigan facilities. Candidates demonstrate facility-specific environmental management systems, have active pollution prevention initiatives at their facilities, and have a consistent record of compliance with state and federal environmental requirements.

GM's Technical Center houses facilities for the design, engineering, manufacturing and testing of GM vehicles.  It also has advanced research labs and a pre-production assembly building for automotive prototype builds.  It is the largest GM office complex and has approximately 16,000 employees and contractors on-site.  The site is located on over one square mile of land and has almost 10 million square feet of office, research labs, test labs, and prototype fabrication and assembly shops.

"The Tech Center sits at the cusp of GM innovation," said Craig Duprey, Tech Center facility area manager. "Whether it's our wildlife habitat or pilot programs that focus on energy efficiency within our walls, we ensure our innovation works in concert with the environment."
