DEQ Lansing headquarters is drop spot again this year

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality is partnering again this year with Goodwill Industries to collect used computers for recycling at the DEQ's Lansing headquarters office as part of Earth Day.

Collection services are available April 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Constitution Hall, 525 W. Allegan, in downtown Lansing. The Lansing-area community is welcome to bring unused and unwanted personal computer equipment from home to the Goodwill trailer that will be located at the southwest corner of Allegan Street and Walnut Street, east of Constitution Hall.

Computers contain hazardous materials like lead, cadmium and chrome. Taking these materials to a collection location like Goodwill helps to prevent the release of these materials to the environment. Participants are reminded to delete any data from their hard drives and make the data unrecoverable prior to dropping off their computer equipment. Goodwill will only collect computers and peripheral equipment.

For those who live outside of the Lansing area, Goodwill locations around Michigan will accept personal computer equipment for reuse at no charge. Please visit www.reconnectpartnership.com to find a Goodwill facility near you.
