The Department of Natural Resources and Environment today announced $50,000 of 2011 Michigan Community Pollution Prevention Grants to fund Product Stewardship Program efforts.
The Community P2 Grants provide matching funds to local and tribal governments, health departments, municipalities, non-profits and regional planning agencies to aid in the development of P2 projects.
The program increases cooperation between residents, industry, businesses, and local governments to address consumer product waste through product stewardship. Product stewardship, also known as extended product responsibility, asks manufacturers, retailers, users, and disposers, to share responsibility for reducing the environmental impacts of products.
Requests for funding will be accepted Feb. 22 ? April 18. Organizations receiving grants are required to match total project costs by at least 25 percent using dollars, in-kind goods and services, and/or third party contributions.
