Michigan Green Building Case Studies

Detailed information on the green features of the green buildings in Michigan is available from different sources.

·         Green Buildings in Michigan

This list provides links to more details on several of the projects.  The 'Detail' links include sources from:  USGBC case studies;  Aquinas College writeups of area green projects; case studies in the Handbook below; news articles; and links to building owner websites if available.

·         Building Green for the Future: Case Studies of Sustainable Development in Michigan (Handbook) This 108 page Handbook, shares detailed stories and benefits of some Michigan green building efforts.  It has some striking photos and tells of the successes in schools, libraries, commercial and government buildings and others. The examples show what 'green' building is and why it is important.  In particular, note the matrix in the front. The matrix directs the reader directly to which stories and pages to find discussion on each of the many topics of green building: economics, stormwater, brownfield, etc.  Note: The Handbook was created by the Urban Catalyst Associates.

·         MDEQ's District Office

A listing of green features is provided for the DEQ SE Michigan (Warren) District Office, the first certified 'green' state office building.  (The Niles State Police Post was the first state building using 'green' specifications but the DEQ Warren Office is the first certified as green by the USGBC.)
