The following information pertains to reporting transfers of waste product and by-product under the AWR Program. Examples are provided to illustrate general types of waste products or by-products commonly found in manufacturing processes. These examples do not represent the entire range of possible wastes or by-products.
Part II – Section 10 of the wastewater report are addressed in this guidance:
Section 10.1 Amount of Critical Material Given in Section 6.1 Above That Was Disposed of as Waste Product or Byproduct and Transferred to Off-site Locations
Section 10 - Critical Material Waste Product or By-Product Transfer Information
10.1 – Critical Material Transfer Information
Enter the amount of critical material(s) reported under Section 6.1 that was disposed of as a waste product or by-product and transferred to off-site locations. Do not include the amount of critical materials discharged as reported under Section 9 of the wastewater report. On-site recycling or reuse of waste product is not considered an "off-site" transfer.
Using the Range Code Table, report the annual amount of critical material(s) disposed of as waste product or by-product to off-site locations. If these waste products or by-products are mixtures or blended together in a single container prior to disposal, only report on the amount of critical material(s) contained in the mixture.
Example: OrganoChem, Inc. (located in Michigan) produces a variety of organic chemicals for wholesale to various industries around the world. They are able to blend spent product that didn’t meet specifications with coolant from their manufacturing process. Five (5) of these off-spec products are reportable chemicals as identified on the AWR critical material register. The holding tank for these waste products is 500 gallons, which they empty on average 4 times per year. J&J Environmental Waste Disposal is hired by OrganoChem to pump and haul the waste product in their holding tank for disposal at their reclamation facility.
