What is Asset Classification ? Asset classification is the process of assigning value to data in order to organize it according to its sensitivity to loss or disclosure.

  • Once data is segmented, security controls can be assigned based on sensitivity levels of the data.
  • Think in terms of the military: Unclassified, Confidential, Secret and Top Secret .
