Testing
All prisoners
are given a TB test and a physical, including a blood test for HIV and venereal
disease. If further examination is required or a medical specialist is needed,
appointments are scheduled which may require the prisoner to be taken out
under secure escort. Dental and eye exams also are scheduled.
Offenders are also given psychological testing. The Minnesota Multi-phasic
Personality Inventory test is given to determine personality disorders.
Prisoners who appear to be within normal limits continue in their processing
while those who appear to be in need of further evaluation and possible
intervention are scheduled for an interview by a staff psychologist. Prisoners
convicted of certain types of crimes, such as criminal sexual misconduct,
are automatically scheduled for an interview by a psychologist. The interview
may result in a recommendation for therapy or counseling.
Education testing is also conducted. The TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education)
is administered to measure the prisoner's achievements in individual reading
and math skills.
