Daniel G. Boda, Jr.,
a resident unit officer at Camp Pellston, has been chosen 1991 Officer
of the Year. His selection was announced by Director Ken McGinnis.
McGinnis said Boda
"exemplifies what a good corrections officer should be. He gives
much to his job and much to the community. He is a contributor - a person
you'd like living next door to you and working in the same housing unit
with you."
Boda has worked for
the Department for the past 23 years. Praised for his "fair and caring
attitude" by his supervisors, Boda also has gained attention for
designing innovative reports and forms. Supervisors say he spends his
time counseling prisoners and looking for ways to make the camp operation
run more smoothly. In addition, Boda is very active in the community where
he is cofounder of the Northern Michigan Pee-Wee Football League, secretary-treasurer
of the Pellston Teen Club, cofounder and operator of the Pellston Teen
Club, is a coach for several youth athletic teams and is founder of the
Christian Fellowship at Camp Pellston.
Runners up were: Michael
Bronson of Egeler, Dennis Foster of MTU, Robert L. McConnell of Riverside,
Herman Milton of Thumb, and Janet L. Sommervill of SPSM-Trusty.
Selection was made
by the Michigan Correctional Officers' Training Council.
