Office of New Employee Training and Professional Development

The Office of New Employee Training and Professional Development is responsible for developing and providing both initial new employee training and in-service training for status employees.

The Office of  New Employee Training & Professional Development establishes standards for training and assists the Department by planning, evaluating, developing and presenting training materials to improve employee performance, skills and knowledge.

All Department employees are required to attend new employee training and yearly in-service training. This training follows standards and guidelines established by the American Corrections Association, the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA) , and Department policy. Training for corrections officers also follows additional guidelines as established by state law.
