Built in 1991 on 120 acres of state land, six miles north of Iron River, Camp Ottawa is under the administrative control of the Ojibway Correctional Facility. It has a maximum capacity for 240 prisoners and employs 48 staff members. Inside the camp, Michigan State Industries operates a sawmill and the DNR uses prisoner labor to produce concrete pads for boat launches used throughout the Upper Peninsula.
