he Michigan Department of Corrections was awarded five grants for 2003 from the Michigan Justice Training Fund. Securing the grants allows the Department to sponsor these programs tuition free. The Michigan Justice Training Commission recently merged with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), effectively joining standards setting with funding. The resulting organization, Michigan Justice Training Fund, is funded by the legislature annually.
ID Interview and Interrogation is an investigative technique that uses a structured set of non-accusatory behavior-provoking questions developed as a result of thousands of interviews. The REID Behavioral Analysis Interview assists the interviewer or interrogator to determine whether the suspect is deceptive about involvement in the matters under investigation, and is flexible enough to be used in cases ranging from employee theft to homicide.
Basic Detective Training is a program to enhance the skills for MDOC personnel to investigate criminal and administrative complaints at their worksite.
Scientific Content Analysis (SCAN) assists the investigator in determining whether the subject is truthful or deceptive, what information the subject is concealing and whether the subject was involved in the crime by analyzing the subject's written statements.
Glock Instructor Workshop is a comprehensive advanced pistol skills workshop to develop and enhance the firearm trainer’s expertise and skills with the pistol as applied in correctional and law enforcement situations.
Jaycor Pepperball Instructor Training will certify the trainee as an instructor with the Jaycor Pepperball Air Launcher, a specialty impact/chemical agent launcher. The Departmet of Corrections plans to test the Jaycor Pepperball Launcher at a department facility. With department approval, the Emergency Services Manager supports adding Jaycor Pepperball Launcher to the Ordnance Manual as an authorized item for use by Emergency Response Team members during disturbances and cell extractions.
