Types of Consultative Services

Hazard Survey: A hazard survey consists of a workplace walkthrough to identify safety and health hazards. Recordkeeping, workplace posters, and written programs are also covered. The hazard survey will result in a written report. There are no CITATIONS or PENALTIES for participating employers. However, employers must agree to correct all serious hazards.

Consultation: Consultations can help with safety and health questions and MIOSHA standard/rule interpretations. Consultations are typically performed remotely via phone, email, or Microsoft Teams.

Training: Consultants can support employers with training tailored to the unique needs of each workplace. A consultant can conduct training on MIOSHA standards and other safety and health topics including recordkeeping, hazard communication, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and recommended practices for safety and health programs. Training can be performed in-person or remotely via Microsoft Teams. Employers looking for formal classroom training should visit the MIOSHA Training Institute (MTI) webpage to learn more about course offerings and the certificate program.

Self-Help Program: The Self-Help Program assists small employers, typically those with less than 250 employees, in conducting evaluations of hazardous exposures in the workplace. This service provides limited technical industrial hygiene guidance, monitoring and measuring equipment, sample analyses, and general information.
