The Michigan Student Data System (MSDS) Migrant Curriculum Collection will be used to collect migrant student course information to comply with federal requirements. Any public school student who has a certificate of eligibility (COE) for migrant services is required to be reported, regardless of an entity's participation in the federally funded Migrant Education Program.
The MSDS and the Migrant Education Data System (MEDS) will be sharing data to coordinate the timely collection of each migrant student's course-work data. District users will be notified when students who have COEs for migrant services are enrolled in their districts via an item on their "To Do" lists in the MSDS. Districts are required to submit student curriculum data within 10 days of migrant students' enrollment and updated course history within 10 days from the time students exit a district or the end of the school year, when all migrant students are considered exited.
The migrant collection will be open all year so that student curriculum data can be updated at any time. Students must be enrolled in a district within the MSDS in order to certify Migrant Curriculum Collection records for them. This may be completed through a General Collection, Student Record Maintenance Collection or by including the necessary enrollment data with the Migrant Curriculum Collection record.
We anticipate that the Migrant Curriculum Collection will be launched in late winter or early spring of 2010 for the reporting of 2009-2010 school year data.
