National Archery in the Schools Program
National Archery in the Schools Program
More than 600 Michigan schools currently offer the National Archery in the Schools Program, or NASP, for their fourth through 12th grade students in their physical education class, and the program continues to expand.
Archery is a sport nearly everyone can be successful at regardless of age, size or physical ability. Statistics show that school archery programs engage more students in the educational process, improve classroom performance and reduce drop-out rates. More information on the program and the benefits of archery is available on the official NASP website.
For more information about NASP in Michigan, please contact Kathy Garland at GarlandK3@Michigan.gov or 517-243-4258.
How to implement NASP in your school
If you are a teacher and are interested in the program, we invite you to attend our free eight-hour Basic Archery Instructor course. Classes are available on a regional basis – please contact your regional coordinator to find a class and register.
Once completed, you will receive national certification to teach basic target archery, and may order archery equipment kits (cost is around $2,700). Grants for equipment are available for interested schools.
Tournaments
NASP tournaments in Michigan are organized and administered by a Michigan committee of advisors and the NASP National Office. The contact for all Michigan tournaments is:
