Welcome to Michigan's Ag Tourism Website

For years, Michigan’s economy has relied heavily on the auto industry. However, with the recent declines in sales and profitability, the state’s economy has taken a hit. As such, Michigan leaders are looking to other industries to diversify the economy for greater future stability.  There is much focus on tourism and agriculture and as they are the state’s second and third largest industries.

The adage, “today’s luxury is tomorrow’s necessity”, is holding true with tourism. As American lives become busier, there is increased need to retreat from the daily grind. Last-minute getaway packages offer greater opportunities for tourism destinations closer to urban centers. These factors lead to a continued strong demand for quality tourism products spanning all demographic groups and regional areas.

The geographic location and make-up of the land has made Michigan the leading drive-to destination in the Midwest for leisure travel. Although tourism activity peaks during the summer months, the long-term goal is to develop tourism products that attract customers year-round. Combine the advantages Michigan has to offer with the aging population who has time and money to spend on travel and the result is great economic growth within Michigan’s travel and tourism industry. This all leads to a natural fit of agriculture and tourism.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our website and more so, we hope you come and enjoy all that Michigan Agricultural Tourism has to offer.
