Protecting the Great Lakes

Asian Carp

"Asian carp are a clear and present danger to the Great Lakes and our economy.

We cannot wait five more years to address a threat of this magnitude."

Attorney General Bill Schuette
Addressing a public forum sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The Fight Against Asian Carp: Saving Jobs and Protecting Our Ecology
Attorney General Schuette is working with allies nationwide to drive immediate action by the federal government to stop the spread of invasive Asian carp to the Great Lakes. An Asian carp invasion would devastate the $7 billion per year Great Lakes recreational fishing industry and result in the loss of jobs when Michigan can least afford it. The threat is real and Attorney General Schuette is working on multiple fronts to protect the ecology and economy of Great Lakes. The solution is a permanent long-term ecological separation between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River basin.
