Insurance Producer and Agency Appointments Go Online April 1st

Contact: OFIS (Toll-free) 1-877-999-6442

Office of Financial and Insurance Services (OFIS) Commissioner Linda A. Watters announced that effective April 1, 2004 all company appointments and cancellations will be conducted electronically. Companies can access information about the service under the "Licensing" section of the OFIS web site - www.michigan.gov/ofis.

"OFIS is committed to making our operations more efficient and as user-friendly as possible," said Watters. "Increasing opportunities for electronic submission will ultimately reap rewards for both OFIS and regulated entities."

In June 2002, companies were notified that appointments and cancellations were required to be submitted electronically, with the exception of Credit Products, Personal Lines, Casualty, and Property, which were required to be submitted on paper. Temporary waivers were also granted to companies that submitted 10 or fewer appointments annually. All temporary waivers will expire April 1, 2004.

Any company that was previously exempted from electronic submission should check out the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) at www.licenseregistry.com under "Products and Services" to obtain a list of authorized business partners qualified to provide electronic appointment/cancellation services.

For specific information please contact the Insurance Licensing Section at 877/999-6442 or ofis-licensing@michigan.gov.
